The following is a grammatically correct English sentence:

Buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo.

It means, “Buffalo from the city of Buffalo intimidate other buffalo who are also from the city of Buffalo.”

For some reason, the spell-check on Micro$oft Word turned that whole sentence red. Go figure.

Maybe “Word” was also buffaloed. (By the way, I can’t get that beautiful fox out of my mind!)

  2. Lis Says:

I had to read that sentence about a dozen times.

  3. wolf Says:

montucky: I don’t think the software designers could possibly have thought ahead to a sentence like that one. And the fox: I know what you mean. I only wish I had gotten a few more pics.

  4. wolf Says:

Lis: That’s one less time than me. Congratulations!

Are you familiar with this puzzle:

Joe had had had Tom had had had had had had had had the teacher’s approval

You’re supposed to make that into a valid English sentence just by punctuating it. It can be done, but you have to use quotes, which is kind of cheating if you ask me.

  6. wolf Says:

That that that that that that that is insane. Do you know the answer? Because I just spent ten minutes on it, and I give up.

  7. offendedblogger Says:

    Oh, this is fun!

Your last comment reminded me that when I was in school, my teacher showed us a gramatically correct sentence similar to that one. It went something like:

That that that that boy wrote was spelled incorrectly.

Of course I got kicked out of class for asking her if she was back on the crack, who knew she was right?! :p

  8. wolf Says:

Now, yours I can decipher, though, like Diesel’s, using quotation marks makes it a lot easier.
Your question implied that your teacher was once on the crack and had fallen off the wagon; hence your removal from class?

  9. offendedblogger Says:

Heh, well you know, inner-city teachers and all that, we all smoked crack together at some point.

(OK, not really, I grew up in Wyoming haha.)
